Friday night social

We know many of you are planning to travel down on the Friday and make a weekend of it, so we have organised a Friday night social event at Castaways Wine Bar in Mylor Churchtown for pre-regatta food and drinks. This will include a buffet meal (1 course £16, with dessert £25) plus an auction of rowing-related items. Exploring the Carrick Roads

For any clubs staying over on Saturday night who fancy a more leisurely row on Sunday, here are some of our top tips for places to explore. High tide is 12:39, so it’s perfect for checking out hidden creeks and eateries which are less accessible at low tide.

• Pandora Inn - Perhaps Cornwall’s most picturesque waterside pub. Open from 9am for breakfast, access via pontoon

• St Just Pool - A beautiful and peaceful hidden creek, accessible around high tide

• King Harry Ferry and Trelissick - A historic chain car ferry, crossing the Fal throughout the day. Great views of Trelissick House at the top of the Carrick Roads on the approach

• St Mawes - Idyllic Cornish village with various options for food, drinks and ice creams

• Falmouth - Head for Falmouth Watersports Centre for a public slip. Windjammer restaurant at the top of the slip does great breakfasts with views of the harbour

• Flushing beach and sauna - If you’re looking to ease aching muscles, Flushing beach has a wood-fired sauna with a view - and easy access for cold-water dipping. See Kiln Sauna at Flushing & Gylly Beach & Ferryboat Inn Cornwall for booking info

• Black Rock - Historic conic cardinal marker at the entrance to the Carrick Roads, with views of Pendennis and St Mawes 16th century castles

• Penryn River - Best accessed around high tide, head up the Penryn River to the historic port of Penryn and explore the contrasting pretty inlets and boatyards
